Taking Absentee Ownership To The Extreme

Paul Jackson has opened Lunar Realty in Rismedia, Australia, for the purpose of selling land on the moon. Jackson purchased the Australian rights to sell the lunar land from Dennis Hope of Nevada.

In 1980 Hope registered a claim for the moon, as well as all planets in the solar system with the United States, the United Nations and the USSR. He has since sold real estate on the moon to two million people from 180 countries.

We were unable to find a comment from Jackson or Hope on the availability of a local attorney to search the title or the location of a local courthouse for recording the deeds.

Average Manhattan Apartment Values Approach $1 Million

There are folks who figured people would be living on the moon before the average price of an apartment in a U.S. municipality reached a million dollars, but it looks like the latter is about to become true.

A survey conducted by Prudential Douglas Elliman concluded that the average sales price of a Manhattan apartment in the third quarter of 2003 rose 6% from the previous quarter to $916,959.

Real estate experts point out that real estate costs in Boston and San Francisco are about as high as they are in Manhattan.

Appraisal Summit Held In Washington

Over 2,000 real estate appraisers and policymakers attended the 2003 Washington Appraisal Summit recently. The Appraisal Institute, which sponsored the convention, calls it “the first appraisal event of its kind.”

One major highlight of this two-day gathering was an announcement by the Veteran’s Administration to add 2,000 appraisers to its VA Appraiser Panel. Another announcement came from financial institution regulators about a soon-to-be-released guideline on appraiser independence. Additionally, over 25 federal agencies provided program updates that affected the appraisal profession and attendees were able to have individual meetings with members of Congress.
